Quan els rajos de sol arriben a l'aigua, per exemple, d'una piscina, aquests canvien la seva direcció normal i una part dels rajos es reflecteixen i l'altre part es refracteixen.
És a dir, una part dels rajos de sol entren dins de l'aigua , i l'altre reboten de l'aigua i tornen a l'exterior.
D'aquesta manera, si una persona està dreta a una piscina amb mig cos fora de l'aigua, rebrà un doble impacte de rajos de sol: els que li vénen directes del sol, i els que es reflecteixen de l'aigua.
